THE DESIGN QUESTION
Filtering water is the main job. Carrying, connecting and caring for the filter are part of the experience, too.
DualFlow brings those tasks into one 64 g body. The three-stage water path deals with different filtering jobs, two inlet thread sizes accommodate different containers, and the backwash connection stays with the filter.

Support a bottle on the move and a hanging water bag at camp.
Build in the backwash port, so maintenance needs one less loose part.
01 / THE STARTING POINT
UP TO2L/min
A filter also has to be practical to use. DualFlow pairs a 0.1 μm hollow-fiber membrane with a rated flow of up to 2 L/min, using pressure from a gentle squeeze or the height of a hanging water bag.
Maximum rated flow. Actual flow varies with water quality, pressure and filter condition.
02 / FOLLOW THE WATER
The design separates sediment screening, membrane filtration
and taste improvement into three successive stages.
STAGE 01 / THE FIRST LINE
The first stage is a 304 stainless-steel screen. It catches sand, sediment and larger debris upstream of the membrane, reducing the amount of coarse material that reaches the finer filtering surface.
Start with the clearest flowing freshwater available. The pre-filter is extra protection when a little sediment comes along.
The video shows loose sediment being cleared by inverting and shaking the pre-filter area. Membrane backwashing is a separate step: clean water travels through the filter in reverse.
STAGE 02 / AT THE HEART OF DUALFLOW
Water passes through the walls of the PES hollow fibers. The 0.1 μm pores create the physical filtration barrier; this stage handles the fine particles and bacteria that the coarse pre-filter does not.

Measured at start-up in the SGS laboratory test. Result applies to the tested sample and stated test conditions.

The factory process uses airborne particles to check filter integrity. This screens for an unintended path through the assembly; it is a separate check from the SGS water-filtration test.
STAGE 03 / THE FINISHING TOUCH
Particle filtration and taste are different design problems. After the membrane, water passes through a silver-loaded microporous activated-carbon capsule that helps reduce unwanted odors and off-tastes.
The product uses Ag₄O₄ within the carbon media to help inhibit bacterial growth in that stage. Its role is different from the membrane’s physical barrier. It does not turn the filter into a universal treatment for every water source.

03 / DESIGNING AROUND THE CONTAINER
Bottles and water bags serve different routines.
DualFlow accommodates both with 28 mm and 42 mm connections.
THE EVERYDAY TRAIL SETUP
28mm
The 28 mm inlet fits compatible beverage bottles and the optional RidgeSong 2 L water bag. Container shape and thread size are separate choices: the same connection can serve a bottle or a bag.

THE DESIGN IN USE
A closer look at DualFlow in the mountains. Squeeze the source container to move water through the filter and into a separate vessel.
04 / MAINTENANCE IS PART OF THE SYSTEM
Fine particles can build up at the membrane and reduce flow. Backwashing reverses the direction of clean water to help lift trapped debris. Building the 28 mm backwash port into DualFlow removes the need to carry a separate connection adapter.
Unscrew the drinking-outlet assembly to reveal the built-in 28 mm connection. The carbon capsule stays with the removed assembly.
Attach a compatible 28 mm bottle filled with clean water.
Gently squeeze clean water through the outlet side of the membrane and out through the inlet. Refit the outlet assembly before filtering again.
Source water → Screen → Membrane → Carbon → Outlet
Clean water → Backwash port → Membrane in reverse → Inlet
Make it a habit.
Backflush after every 5 L, or when flow slows.

THE DESIGN, TAKEN TOGETHER
Screen the sediment. Filter through the membrane.
Finish with carbon. Connect. Use. Backwash.
DESIGN AT A GLANCE
USE & DESIGN LIMITS
The intended use matters as much as the components inside.
Use the clearest flowing freshwater available. Avoid industrial runoff, wastewater and visibly contaminated water. DualFlow provides filtration; follow appropriate water-treatment guidance when the source is uncertain.
No. DualFlow is not a desalinator and is not designed to remove viruses or all dissolved chemical contaminants. The carbon stage is not a claim that any water source can be made suitable for drinking.
DualFlow supports compatible 28 mm and 42 mm container openings. The 28 mm connection works with common beverage bottles and the optional RidgeSong 2 L bag; the 42 mm connection accommodates compatible wide-mouth containers. Check the thread fit and seal before use.
Backflush with clean water after every 5 L of filtration, or when you notice reduced flow. Use the built-in 28 mm backwash connection and follow the product’s care instructions.
The report records 99.9999% total coliform removal at the start of service life for the tested sample. It does not establish removal of every contaminant or guarantee the same result for every field condition. Read the test report.
